Herd coaching in badminton is a common approach in many clubs. By training large groups in the same way, without considering individual needs, can maximise profit—but at what cost?

Herd coaching explained
Lack of Personal Attention – When a coach has too many students at once, individual progress is overlooked. Mistakes go unnoticed, and players struggle to refine their skills effectively.
One-Size-Fits-All Approach – Every player learns at a different pace. While some quickly grasp techniques, others need more time to perfect their skills. Herd coaching forces all players to follow the same rigid plan, leaving some behind and limiting others from reaching their full potential.
Limited Skill Development – Badminton requires precision, adaptability, and strategy. A generic training program does not help players develop their own unique playing styles, making it harder for them to excel in competitive matches.
Lower Motivation and Confidence – Players who do not receive the support and corrections they need can feel lost or discouraged. Without tailored encouragement, they may lose interest in the sport altogether.
Invisible Disabilities Often Overlooked – Players with invisible disabilities such as ADHD, anxiety, or sensory processing challenges may require subtle accommodations or teaching methods. In a herd coaching setup, these needs often go unrecognised, leading to frustration, underperformance, and feelings of exclusion.
Students must learn, as they are king
